Guill Series 100 Offers Multi-Strand Extrusion Capabilities From a Single Extruder, with Highly Precise Material Blending

Ideal for Electronic, Medical, OEMs, Wire & Cable and Compounding Applications

Guill announces the new modular, multiple-output die system that ensures precision control for extrusion of jacketing and tubing in a wide range of product variations, while utilizing just one extruder.

The new Series 100 system, designed and manufactured by Guill, can produce 8, 16, 32 or 64 products from a single extruder. This system can also be configured to co-extrude up to three layers as well as single or multiple stripes. The Series 100 is engineered for compounding, coating of wire or thread, small tubes or small profiles. Major applications in addition to compounding include: electronic, medical, OEMs and wire & cable.

The Series 100 system has the additional capability to produce low-volume output and to easily adapt to quick-change tooling. To increase or reduce overall output, a shut-off valve is simply turned on or off.

Die Extrusion Technology for Medical Tubing Applications

Patent-pending process would allow 1000-plus layers from a single extruder

Although the concept of nanotechnology (controlling matter on an atomic scale) dates back to 1959, it is only now becoming more commercially realized. It has the potential to challenge the way all products are extruded in almost every type of medical tubular or related industrial product application.

Advanced nanotechnology, when used in extrusion tubing as opposed to the conventional format, offers significant savings through the use of less material and/or less expensive material, as well as a reduction in different materials needed for production. In working to overcome the limitations of a number of layers to use in tubular or hollow products, far more layers can now be extruded, giving manufacturers the ability to create an extremely wide range of advanced medical tubes to fulfill the growing list of specialty type products.

With state-of-the-art 3D CAD, CFD and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to assist engineers in the nanotechnology process, customizing of the die will be key in accommodating critical characteristics included in every final product created from extrusion tubing.

New Guill™ NanoFlow Die Creates a Thousand Plus Layers

Overcomes Limitations of Advanced Tubular Products

West Warwick, RI – The new NanoFlow die technology from Guill Tool & Engineering Co., Inc. has the potential to leap-frog existing state-of-the-art extrusion die technology.  The NanoFlow die (patent and patents pending) can create a thousand plus layers from a single extruder as opposed to roughly a dozen layers prior to the NanoFlow’s development. The NanoFlow layer thickness is in the micrometer (1 millionth of a meter) to nanometer (1 billionth of a meter) range.

“Several years ago, we started working on overcoming the limitations in the number of layers we could use in tubular or hollow products,” says Richard Guillemette, Guill’s Vice-President. “Guill now has nano tooling designs with far more layers than what was previously possible—all of which can create a wide range of advanced products. We are encouraged with the potential of this new die design.” He concluded “Guill’s NanoFlow die technology could be a new tool in the product designer’s toolbox.”

New Six-Layer Tooling State-Of-The-Art Design for OEMs/Tube Makers
Meets Peak Auto Performance with Superb Environmental Protection

Today, with less than a handful of extrusion tooling manufacturers in the world able to engineer and market a six-layer head/die, Guill stands at the forefront of an exciting new breakthrough in money-saving extrusion technology.

Extrusion tubing manufacturers/OEMs that serve automotive applications are welcoming a new and unique six-layer head/die from Guill Tool & Engineering Co. This technology offers a host of benefits that include a lower cost for a single six-layer system as compared to purchasing two three-layer systems or three two-layer systems that perform precisely the same function.

Other benefits of the new six-layer Series 800 include the ability to extrude fluropolymer materials, which have superior qualities and resistance to fuel blends, UV, heat and chemicals. The six-layer can also handle non-fluropolymers and adhesives that work well when combined in thin layers (.02 mm or less) with new head/die tubing end products. With the design of the six-layer by Guill, all inner layers are totally encapsulated to avoid any possible contamination of the tubing itself.

New Patent-Pending MicroAdjust™ Now Available On Guill Medical Tooling Series

Guill’s extrusion tooling for medical/OEM manufacturers now has new benefits with Guill’s latest MicroAdjust technology. The patent-pending MicroAdjust mechanism can be added to the Series 712 and 812 upon request.

The unique patent-pending MicroAdjust mechanism assists users in substantially reducing any operator error that may occur when adjusting bolts for the die when extruding extremely sensitive, thin-walled medical tubing. With the MicroAdjust, movement is 1/7th of that compared to a conventional concentricity bolt, which ensures less risk of over-adjusting. In addition, the number of concentricity bolts is reduced from four to two, and there are no more opposing concentricity bolts that require backing off prior to adjusting the die.
